About Kevin Lee

With 10+ years leading the business legal teams at disruptive clean technology companies (EVgo, Bird), Kevin has been on the ground helping companies build new business models, partner with vendors and customers, raise equity & debt, navigate regulatory hurdles, engage in major corporate transactions, and manage day-to-day legal needs.

Kevin received his J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School and his B.A. summa cum laude from Yale University, studying philosophy and psychology.

Accomplishments & Key Transactions

Leading Bird's corporate & commercial legal team:
  • Raised >$1B in equity financing via Series C, Series D, and convertible equity rounds, and managed public listing via SPAC merger
  • Structured $150M asset-backed debt financing program
  • Completed acquisitions of global micromobility operators Scoot and Circ
  • Structured new operating models, including a B2B platform model, and transitioned fleet operations from gig to in-house to independent logistics companies.

    As EVgo's Head of Legal:
  • Oversaw $120M+ program to deploy electric vehicle charging infrastructure under the California PUC
  • Partnered with retail & multifamily REITS and other property owners for buildout of EV charging stations
  • Worked closely with auto OEMs & dealerships - including Nissan, BMW and GM - to offer and market consumer and fleet charging programs

    Kevin was a corporate securities associate at Irell & Manella LLP, and a senior corporate & real estate attorney with Anglin Flewelling.

    • Mission-Driven

    Kevin seeks to be a good steward of the planet locally and globally. In 2022, he volunteered at the Cloudbridge reserve in Costa Rica to help reforestation efforts, assisted on river cleanup efforts with FoLAR, and restored native plants at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook.

    Previously, he helped lobby on behalf of the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign, as well as Citizens Climate Lobby. He also worked with Caltech's NetImpact group on sustainability events and programs for graduate students. In 2015, he installed solar panels on an orphanage in Haiti as part of a volunteer crew from NRG.

    While on a break from lawyering, he founded an educational consulting practice working with junior high and high school students to help them find their passion and develop writing and critical thinking skills.

    He also enjoys hiking, puzzles of all kinds, immersive theater, and cosmology.
